Sustainability

Sustainable Fashion. What’s it all about?

Sustainable clothing refers to clothing fabrics derived from eco-friendly resources. Sustainably grown fiber crops or recycled materials are typically used in sustainable clothing. The way these fabrics are made is what sets them apart from other clothing.

Organic cotton

Almost all of our clothing is made from 100% organic cotton. A few items are made from recycled cotton, and some items have a blend of 40% recycled polyester and 60 % recycled cotton. See productdescriptions for details.

Organic cotton is a natural, GMO-free fibre that uses less water than standard cotton. In addition, its production does not involve the use of chemicals (no fertilisers or pesticides) and encourages rotation of crops to keep soil healthier, more fertile and maintain humidity. Waste from the cotton ginning process is also recycled for the animal feed industry.

Recycled cotton

The cutting of different pieces to make clothing naturally produces scrap material. Since the idea of throwing away this material is out of the question, this material is collected and recycled into new cotton thread that is used in the manufacture of some of our clothing and our bags.

Recycled polyester

Recycled polyester is used as a complement (up to 15%) to organic cotton in some of our sweatshirts. To ensure that our sweatshirts are nice and soft against your skin, it is never in direct contact with the polyester, which is sandwiched between two layers of organic cotton.

Salvage

Products carrying the Salvage symbol, are made from 100% recycled materials.
The cuttings from organic cotton textile production, are salvaged, shredded and turned back into soft cotton fibres. Fibres made from locally recycled plastic bottles are added to obtain the cotton and polyester blend. The blended fibres are spun into fine yarn to make fabric to create a high-quality product.

Salvage labelled products are certified under the Global Recycle Standard (GRS) and the Organic Content Standard (OCS) by the Control Union Certifications.

GOTS certification

GOTS is the Global Organic Textile Standard label. The strictest certification for textiles made from organic fibres.

GOTS tracks the entire chain of production from farm to factory: from harvesting of the cotton, weaving of fibres, assembly of items, to the final product before printing, including even the export of our clothing! It certifies that the cotton of the clothing we sell is GMO-free and is grown without the use of chemicals and is processed and dyed without using any banned toxic substances.

GOTS also ensures compliance with the labour standards of the International Labour Organisation throughout the chain of production.

Fair Wear Foundation Certification

All our shirts and sweaters have a Fair Wear Foundation Certificate. The Fair Wear Foundation is a non-profit organization that helps keep people under healthy working conditions in factories and receiving fair wages.
